[S1] It's time to look after ourselves, to pamper ourselves, Ludovic. A tone for letting go with sophrology. Ghislaine Morin is here with us. Welcome, Ghislaine.
[S2] Thank you, hello everyone.
[S1] So, sophrology - we hear a lot about it. The idea is to let go.
[S2] That's right. We are often busy toing and froing between the past and the future, but very rarely in the present moment. And so, generally speaking, people who struggle to let go often have parasitic thoughts, and often find it hard to switch off.
[S1] So that can cause muscle tension, and can it also lead to problems falling asleep?
[S2] Yes, there will be exhaustion in particular, fatigue, and indeed difficulty falling asleep. So we often see muscle tension. Emotion management and emotional overflow. Often, people who struggle to let go will have an emotional overflow that may take the form of irritability - we get angry more easily. Some people will also be more thin-skinned, crying more easily.
[S1] Well, there are still things to be done. What should you do? What are the solutions?
[S2] The first keys are to become aware of your emotions. We will put words to these emotions. So it may be anger, it may be sadness, disappointment. So we will express these emotions so as to be able to welcome them and also experience them with less intensity.
[S1] Then you have to accept them too.
[S2] You have to accept them, absolutely. You have to accept that events do not always happen the way you would like them to. There are always unforeseen events, that's life, that's how it is. So you have to be able to accept that life is like that and distinguish between what you can control, master, and what is beyond control. We will not try to control what is uncontrollable.
[S1] Can we go through relaxation exercises?
[S2] Well yes, first of all, for the relaxation exercises, we will recentre on ourselves. We will listen to ourselves. We will try to come back - not to switch off the mind - and come back to bodily sensations. Taking the time to listen and to find a calm within ourselves. It will be a way, particularly through breathing, of releasing those tensions.
[S1] Well, let's do a little exercise then. I wanted to suggest a short exercise so that we can try a bit of sophro.
[S2] To begin with, sophro can already be done standing. This is what we call dynamic relaxation. Preferably with the eyes closed, standing, taking the time to find those points of contact. With the eyes closed, very gently, we will simply become aware of our breathing, feel our breathing by doing a few abdominal breaths. And then after that, I suggest you breathe in deeply and raise both arms towards the sky, straight up, while breathing in and holding the breath for a few moments, stretching the whole body.
[S1] It feels good, it did last time.
[S2] And on the out-breath, we breathe out, we release.
[S1] And do we do that twice?
[S2] And we do it at least 3 times. There we go, so as to become aware of the body, to feel the body, and we take a short pause at the end of these exercises, sitting down, to listen to the bodily sensations. You should rather isolate yourself, be available, truly in this inner listening.
[S1] But we do it 3 times, so these movements while breathing in, raising the arms vertically, and then we breathe out while releasing the arms along the body. And we try to do this three times. Afterwards we sit down, and we already see how it goes. Before getting worked up, we do this! It avoids tying yourself in knots.
[S1] To find out how to come to sophrology, to see whether it speaks to us, it can be a little exercise. Exercises like that, we'll have regularly thanks to you. With great pleasure, Ghislaine, I'm sure it will do us good. Thank you very much.
📌 Summary (PLAUD AI)
Symptoms and manifestations of a lack of letting go
People who find it difficult to let go oscillate between the past and the future, which prevents them from anchoring themselves in the present moment. This rumination leads to: generalised exhaustion, persistent fatigue, difficulty falling asleep, muscle tension, irritability, outbursts of anger, being easily hurt.
Cognitive keys and levers for regulation
* Identifying and putting emotions into words: putting precise words to what is felt (anger, sadness, disappointment) in order to welcome the emotions with less intensity.
* Accepting the unforeseen: acknowledging that life's ups and downs are part of life.
* The dichotomy of control: distinguishing what is controllable from what is not, giving up trying to master what escapes us.
* Recentring on the body: a quiet time of listening to oneself, returning to bodily sensations, releasing tensions through breathing.

Frequently asked questions
How many sophrology sessions are necessary?
It depends on your goal. For stress or sleep, 5 to 10 sessions are often recommended. A free 30-minute first meeting allows us to define your support together.
Is sophrology reimbursed?
Some health insurers reimburse sophrology sessions (e.g. Radiance-Humanis). Ask your health insurer.
How does a session unfold?
A session lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour: a time for discussion, guided breathing and relaxation exercises, then a review of how you felt.
Does sophrology replace medical treatment?
No. Sophrology is a complementary practice that does not replace medical treatment. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
